Final Exam

The power of words:

1. What did she write?
-  She wrote that it was a beautiful day and I can't see.

2. How did this video make you feel inside?
- It makes me realize that I need to watch what I say  or what others say because it could change everything, this video also pulled at the hart strings.

3. Why would I show this video to you?
- You would show this video to make me realize that usually when writing stories we only have a limited amount of space and we have to put everything into those, watch what we say because it could change everything.
4. How can you "Change your words" to impact the readers of your school newspaper?
- I think I could change the words to impact my readers by really thinking about what I am going to say and how to say it so that it actually means something, so that is actually does something to the reader, leaving them with something. 

Three little pigs:

5. How many different ways did the Guardian cover the story of the three little pigs?
-  The guardian covered the story in 5 different ways. 
6. Is the story the same as you remember it as a child?
- No, there was a lot of "not child like" problems compared to the story like  not paying mortgage. There was a lot more facts to consider compared to the childhood story. 
7. Who did they interview?
- There interviews where of everyone, all opinions, and the detective. 
8. What aspects of the story did they cover?
- The aspects that they covered where that the pigs where the victim, the wolf was the victim, and because of having trouble paying mortgage everyone is the victim. 
9. Were there any aspects of the three little pigs story that were not covered?
- They didn't even focus on all three pigs to much, just at the end, and in the story all the pigs have different houses and they didn't do that, they just focused on the boiling and is it wrong or right and why it might be wrong or right. 
10. Did the Guardian ever offer their opinion of what happened, who was guilty, who was not guilty? 
- They covered both sides of the issue. 
11. Can we do this for events on our campus on a daily basis?
- Not on a daily basis, but for big news stories we probably could.
12. How can you help make this a reality?
- I could help make this a reality by digging deeper on issues and getting more opinions.

Reflection: 

13. What is the most important thing you have learned this semester being on newspaper staff?
- The most import thing I have learned is that you should interview as many people as you can and that DEADLINES are key.  I also learned that yo should actually write the story, don't write it just for quotes, have a flow don't worry about the word count to much. 

14. What can you do next semester to continue your scholastic journalism career in a fulfilling and positive way? For those of you leaving the program at the semester break, what specific problems did you have in being an active member of staff (please be specific, my sincere hope is that students don't drop this program and I want to come up with some solutions for why some people have decided to leave)?
- I need to focus on bettering my photography skills and again the more interviews the better. I also need to edit more myself before I send it off and know I know a lot more then before format wise because I took photo journalism and we didn't really focus on that. 

15. What suggestions do you have to improve any part of this class? For example, you could address editor/staff relations, editor/editor relations, staff relations with the advisor, how we can better serve our community, direct suggestions on the newspaper itself, equipment or supplies we might need, computer program instructions you need, or even stories we should cover. I am open to anything. Part of my job is to make this a positive experience, yet it is also an educational opportunity for all of you and the other part of my job is to teach you new skills. Again, for those of you leaving the program, I am looking for realistic ideas on how to improve the experience so that we do not continue to lose people.
- I like when we get to pick are own stories because www are usually more passion it about it and want to do it more but I actually liked how there was a schedule, it was a little stressing but it helped me a lot.

Sarah Kim Dashed forward to win the track tournament on Friday, the 22nd, ranking the team number two in the nation. The team had been working extra hard, spending every day after school pushing there abilities to the absolute high. 


Robert billy junior sculpts a pot , his favorite activity, teaching the kids just how to do it perfectly. Robert is sad to say, this is his last year , after 42 year of teaching, he will be doing his job, he is retiring saying" These kids have made by job worth it and I am thankful for the time I have had here".  

Brittany Lopez strums her Ukelele and sings her favorite tune as she serves as entertainment for her school Festival. The school festival has been going since the school has started, and Lopez is honored to be able to be apart of the festivities

Biography for Website

I am Shelby Kelly. I am a sophomore and this is my second year on the Lone Star Dispatch Squad. I am a Photographer for the news paper and I sometimes write stories. I am on staff because I love taking photos and want to further myself in journalism. In my free time I like hanging out with my friends, listen to music, smile, , explore the city and play golf. I also love art. I am in choir, theater tech, and chid development. I am not sure what I want to when I grow up , maybe something with journalism or kids.

First Days Newspaper Scavenger Hunt

1. What is new? What look different?
  • art room changed from being half in the garage to fully - more space, color everywhere looks like the art room has always been that big
  • a lot of new things are painted; polls, walls - bright new colors everywhere
  • kitchen has been updated - shiny new appliances, more room to cook
  • new tables in A hall
  • new soda machine- round, big, and black and red
  • the farm in Agg. was re organized - more organized for the new year, a place for everything
2. How did your 1st day go?
  • The 1st day was easy for no one,there where many new things around, and hallways to be memorized. Most freshmen reported that the experienceof the 1st  day  was "teryfying but fun" (freshmen, Julia Comer) and "exciting but hard" (freshmen Marisa Compos). A lot of people believed that it was hard but already couldtell was better then middle school, one student ageing saying "the 1st day was definatly trying but better then middle school" (freshman, Julia Cabrera). For the upper classmen the day was not to much easier saying "although I knew where I was going the day still made me ancious and was definstly not simple" (sophmore, Maggie Diaz) . Another students reminisce saying "the day reminded me of being a freashmen, waslking into those musky halls, but after seeing The B above the doorway it all came back to me" (sophomore, Justine Lockhart).
3. Anything new?
  • Lunchtime always overflows with people leaving no where to sit, most sit on the ground, and lean against the wall/poll. But the school is trying to solve the issue so they added some tables to the hallways. The new tables are black and red just to show out spirit, they are round and sit a lot of people. Students say "the tables give me and my friends more of a place to sit, that way I don't get dirty on the ground" (Clarisse Burns).
  • Coming back from summer break returning students notice that bowie is different, " I noticed that the hallways where more bright, and colorful, different then the normal blank cement" says sophomore, Jessica Lund. This summer the walls and polls where painted, the polls in front of the library where painted with words that bowie strives to encourage.  Sophomore, Adam Ybarra reflects " I think the new paint adds character and spirit".
4. Any sports or Clubs going on?
  • Soccer season is coming, tryouts already took place ans students are ready to play. Bowie is known for there ecelence in sports and soccer is no exception. Coach and art teacher Mr. Logan says " I am excited for the new season, it should be good, we have 16 seniors, and 5 all district players". Many soccer players also say they are ready, practicing during the summer, ready to win.

The big day

The story I just observed …
The bride was getting ready while a car raced down the road.  The guy in the car was going as fast as he could to get to the wedding. The guy was going so he could object to the wedding, because he loves her a lot.


  • Who: Max, the man racing to the chapel 
  • What: a man raced to the wedding because he seemed to be late 
  • Where: In a church out in a country 
  • When: On the "big day", the wedding day
  • Why: all we know is that he went because he had to be at the wedding for some reason, and he was late because of all the impediments on his trip there 
  • How: there where to many impediments or obstacles 


New story: 
It was a cold rainy day, when a guy raced through the country in a medium size silver car. At some points he raced through a forest type setting. On the way many things seemed to slow him down. The man wipes sweat off his forward because he is very nervous. The girl gets ready, puts the final touches into place, the others waiting for the wedding to start. The man races over a bridge, the bride looks out the window, looking out, seeming like she s longing someone or something. The man bursts into the door, interrupting the wedding, looks shoot through the air at different people. Obviously some feelings where felt. 


New story (with quotes);

The big day has come; Rachel and Mike where finally getting married. A man named max, the best friend of Rachel raced through the country side to get to the wedding. 
He was oh so late but thats because of the many impediments in the road. Max bursts in the door, while the couple are about to kiss. Feeling filled stares bounced about the room. 
The bride described that moment as " the best moment in her life, realizing that Max should be the one up here will me," (Rachel Green). 
Max suddenly dropped and a feeling over took him, he said "I thought today I was just going to see one of my friends get married, but today I realized as I looked into her yes that she was the one, I also wondered why this was the first time I realized this," (Max Golding) . 
The bride uncontrollably stepped down from the alter and ran and gave Max a hug. The audience faces dropped, one aunt said that "it was like a scene from a movie," (Nancy Grace). Another uncle describing the moment as "unbelievable, nothing like he has ever seen before," (James Kelly).
The next day the two starlight lovers went to vegas and got married.

Final Exam Preview

1.) Summarize what you watched and read about - let's say 2-3 paragraphs of 3-4 sentences
I learned that to make a "iMovie" you first need to have a Mac (with iMovie),  a camera, and a cord to export the video onto the computer. First you need to open the iMovie program an plug the camera into the computer. Then load the footage into the computer.
Next is the time to start putting it all in a movie ready state. It is time to edit. You can drag and drop the different clips in the right order. Then you can select a clip and either delete it by pressing delete or you can copy and paste it which duplicated that footage. At this time you can also edit the tittle and credits, you can change the font, size, and shape. 
 
2.) Tell me one thing that you already knew about iMovie that the website explained
I knew how to export the video by using the cord as the website explained.

3.) Tell me one thing that you learned new today that you didn’t know before.
I had no idea to edit and now I have a good idea of how to.

4.) What are you concerned about with this final project?
I am concerned about the editing and which exact topic I am going to do.

5.) What are you confident you can complete early and have ready to use?
I am confident about finding time to take the photos.

6.) If I asked you today, what do you think you will do for your video?
I would do something that has to do with my family or nature. Specifically a routine, if I had to do something right now, right away.

e. What is your overall impression of the photographer? What did you like or not like? I didn’t like how many kids there are, very redundant.
I did like the details he picked up, the different textures.

d. List two things the judges like- 1. The “story content” (good ideas) 2. Likes the simple background

e. What is your overall impression of the photographer? What did you like or not like? The overall impression was good but the levels where a bit much. I did not like the all the editing, too much. I liked the ideas of the story as well, very thought provoking.

e. What is your overall impression of the photographer? What did you like or not like? My overall impression was that he had good content. I did not like some of the awkward angles.. I loved the details and colors.

a.    What did the judges note as strengths as they were critiquing it?  Nice color composition Almost all the faces had emotion, everyone was doing something.

b. What do you see as strengths? Do you see any weaknesses?
Strengths: Got right in with the motion, good color and angles Weaknesses: Some times things where a bit busy and we could see more of the pic to get more of the story

a. Briefly describe the process the judges went through in deciding the winner. The judges went through and picked out some with more emotion, less clunkers, picked out things that where not the “same feel”, and picking out pictures the were “tight” with different themes, picking something that “rewards diversity”, also picking someone who was a good editor.

1. Describe one photo that you agree with the judges on. Explain why you and the judges do or do not like it. – The photo is a blurry shot of a red bobsleigh going down the white tracks. I agreed with the judges about the bobsleigh photo, it was a bit too blurry which distracts a lot.

2. Describe one photo that you do NOT agree with the judges on. Explain why you think the judges are wrong. – The photo is the girl on a track team getting attacked by a goose. I do not agree with the judges when they talked about the goose photo. Although the photo is amusing, the photo is not the best it could have been so much better.

Nut Graf

  1. In journalism, a nut graph is a paragraph, particularly in a feature story, that explains the news value of the story. A Nut graph is  the paragraph that explains, in a nutshell, the point of a story.
    The nut graph lets readers know why an article was important or significant enough that it had to be written, published and read.

Student of the Month Story

Who: Camille Seminet ( 9th grade) 
What: Student of the Month Award 
Where: Bowie High school 
When: April 15, 2015
 Why: Camille earned her award by working very hard and on bad days she pictured the ultimate goals and looked passed obstacles, keeping her head up.
 How: Camille kept her grades perfect (straight A's) and was on varsity everything. 

T h e  S t o r y:

On April 15, 2015, a student at James Bowie High school, Camille Seminet, won the Student of the Month Award.

Of the 3,000 students Camille was chosen because she kept her grades perfect (straight A's) and continued to make varsity everything. She earned her award by working very hard and on bad days she pictured the ultimate goals and looked passed obstacles, keeping her head high.

When asked why she thinks she recieved this award, Camille says " because I make straight A's, I try my best at everything, and I have confidence," Camille Seminent. Semminent has been inspired by many to reach this goal, she says, "My father winning back in '82 and the positive influence from my peers and teachers have greatly influenced me and my goals," Camille Seminent.

Principal John Johns presented the award to Camille last Thursday at the Award ceremony. The Principal said "student of the month awards are only given to students that uphold outstanding achievement," Principal John Johns. Camille's parents were also very proud of her. They said " Camille makes us proud in many ways, she is the light in our eyes, what she does never surprises us," Nicole and Max Seminent.  Camille is very close with her counselor who thinks Camille is perfect for the award. Counselor Nona May said, " Camille is a well rounded student who embodies the true spirit of the Bowie Bulldog.

Camille wishes to inspire many others to reach their goals. Semminent said " The most important piece of advice I can give to others, to help them reach there goals, is to always be confident and try you best at everything, never give up," Camille Seminent.

The next award will be given on May 30, 2015.

I got through a bad day by picturing the ultimate goal and looked past obstacles.

My father inspired me to be student of the month because he was one back in '82.

Being student of the month is 50% important to me.

This does help me achieve my goals because it is something I will refer back to, to motivate myself.

The best thing that resulted from this award was the acknowledgment of my peers.

Architecture shoot preview 2 - what you will be shooting

DETAIL:
This is detail because you can see every little pebble on the house. This picture shows the beautiful details of the house.

LIGHT:
The light shows all the natural aspects of the buildings because it emphasizes the rock.  The light travels through the building lightning different parts and shadowing different parts, to make everything pop.
PATTERNS:
The patterns of the circles going diagonal brings you down the picture, as well a the gravel line. The shapes magnify the effects of the repeated circles along the picture.


ANGLES AND PATTERNS:
With this photo the circle shapes are magnified. The photographer  looked at the photo and took advantage of the very cool and interesting shapes.
SURROUNDINGS: 
The surroundings for this photo blend in with the building.  Although it is dark and such there is harmony throughout.

3.) It is located in Mexico, City.
4.)It is a private building because it is a home, although many people drive by it. 
5.) There is no info on much it cost.
6.) A young family with two children from Mexico City were tired of liven in a conventional home and wanted to integrated to nature.
7.) I choose this building because, 1st of all, the amazing shell shape and 2nd of all all the  beautiful colors. I also love the look of how integrated it is with nature, I love this idea. The shape just makes you  just want to smile, which is important to me. Also I just love how unique it is.
