1. The man, Mr. Han, was killed by being pushed onto the tracks by a angry passerby. The photographer was trying to save the man by using his flash to try to warn the train and in the mists he took this photo. But the train could not stop in time and the man died.
2. The photographer said he took the photo because he was actually trying to use his flash to warn the driver and he also knew that there was not enough time to save the man o he captured the image.
3. I think the photographer could have made more of an effort to save the man, but again subway trains are fast and hard to stop in time.
4. I think the photographer maybe instead of picking up his camera could of went and tried to pull the man up, instead of just the "flash method".
5. No I do not disagree to run the post because although the man should of set the camera down and help in a different way, news is still news and the people needs to know what happens.
6. I think for a photojournalist snapping a photo is more important because you get money in return which pays the bill, as well as your image or career grows.
7. I do think it is ethically acceptable to involve themselves the the photograph, as one as he/she helps.
8. No I think photojournalists should do anything to help rather then worry about there photo.
9. I think the most important thing that stands out is that is that it is more important to help then get a good picture.

Final Review
This photo represents leading lines because the lovely red flowers/crops lead you to the main focus; the windmill. Also the sky's simple pattern makes the windmill stand out as well.

Fashion Photography
1. Changes to the girl - in our human's perspective he made her more beautiful, basically added perfect hair and pounds of makeup.
2. Changes to the girl - put bunches of makeup on, made legs and neck longer, made hair wavy and longer, made her more skinny and evened out her skin tones.
3. Changes to the girl - Made skinner slowly while keeping her proportional, made hair longer and more voluminous, and did a bit of blending.
4. With morals I know that it is not ok to change someone's appearance, but in todays world, it is becoming more and more acceptable because that's what people like to see and that's all that seems to mater these days.
5. I think situations where a person is promoting beauty products or showing some short of appearance is more ethically wrong because the results they are showing are totally manipulated and not the exact product which means it is totally fake.
6. I think that lighting, camera settings in general, and maybe some blending of the skin would be fine.
7. Fashion photography in general is basically all about ones appearance, which needs to be good while photojournalism you get photo's that may be "pretty" or not, as long as it portrays the real meaning of what is happening. In fashion photography there tends to be a lot more done to the images since it is all about appearance, and because of that you want the image to look appealing which may cause editing. While in photojournalism you just want the news and the real truth which consequently should need little to no editing.
8. Like I said fashion photography is tied more to the perfect aspects which makes it a lot father from reality because we know there is no perfect while photojournalism is ties to news and the facts there for way closer to reality. Which shows that photojournalism is much more ethical than fashion photojournalism.
9. I think you are showing us these videos to remind us to be ethical when going through our photojournalism career.
10. There are no guys because I think guys are not as easily editable to be pretty because they don't where as much makeup and such.

Favorite:
"It just might be one of the great hair days of all time. For O, The Oprah Magazine’s September 2013 hair-a-palooza issue, photographer Ruven Afanador captured Oprah Winfrey radiant in a magnificent Afro. (As was widely reported, the wig, which Oprah christened “Wild Thang,” weighed about the same as a Chihuahua.) The cover sparked “’Froprah” mania, garnering 337,346,650 media impressions; Oprah’s Instagram of the image drew some 75,000 likes in 24 hours. After 13 years and more than 160 issues with the same cover model (how’s that for a challenge?), O can still surprise, delight, and pump up the volume like nobody else."
Critique:
This cover is very, bright, colorful, beautiful, and it brings your eye right to the subject. But there are some things that can be changed, a bit just like any good cover. I do enjoy the simplicity of the words but I think some of the words could be taken off, also I don't like the pink they used for that one statement, I do not think it really matches with the color scheme. But I do love the way Oprah is lighted, she looks so bright, luminous, and happy really. Also although the hair is huge it still looks good, like it does not look bad. I like this picture because I can relate to this. I do not have quite as much hair as her but I do have an afro when kept untamed. I defiantly like this photo but like I said it could use some changes. I also believe that the settings on the camera made it very cleat and bright.

Plan for portrait assignment
Who will you shoot, where will you shoot, and what will you do to make the shot successful?
I will shoot my brother, Joshua Kelly, age 9.
I will shoot in different places in the city, all around downtown Austin.
To make the shot successful I will make sure the lighting focus are perfect and take more that one.

Self Portraits and portraits Part I AND Rules of Photography Part 2
Tips:
- Looking within the frame – alternatively you could have your subject looking at something (or someone) within the frame.
- Introduce a Prop - Add a prop of some kind into your shots and you create another point of interest that can enhance your shot.
- Change the Format Framing - Many photographers get stuck in a rut of only ever shooting either in ‘landscape’ (when the camera is held horizontally) or ‘portrait’ (when the camera is held vertically) modes.
Examples of the three different types of portraits
- environmental portrait
- a self-portrait
- casual portrait Casual Potrait:

I like these Photos because of the black and white element and because of the different faces, there not all smiling. I also love that in these photos they are all the focus like a good portrait should be on the actual person and nothing else, there is no other distracting factors.Environmental photos:
I choose these pictures because of the amazing lighting! They just capture the beautiful element that is nature. I also love that they are "different", you don't see these styles everyday.Portraits:
I really like these these photos because they carry the feeling of happiness about. I leo love how there backgrounds are "there" but not there. Another plus to this selection is the guy's luscious hair, he really needs a star, because that hair is just the bomb.com.

Aperture, shutter speed and ISO - how do they all work?
Aperture
![]() |
| Baby - Aperture of f2.8 |
![]() |
| City - Aperture of f16 |
1.) The pupil is the part of the body that we closely relate to aperture.
2.) The smaller the aperture, the larger the f stop, the larger the aperture the smaller the aperture.3.) The size of the aperture has a direct effect on the depth of field. A larger f number (smaller aperture) will bring all foreground and background objects in focus while have a smaller f number (larger aperture) will make the foreground objects snap and blurry.
Shutter
![]() |
| Slow shutter speed |
![]() |
| High shutter speed |
At the beginning while the sun was still up and the courtyard had reasonable good light…
a.) a booth in the middle of the yard near the Tree - slow shutter speed
b.) a food booth outside under one of the big red awnings - slow shutter speedc.) the Stars performance inside the gym - fast shutter speed
d.) students dancing near the center of the courtyard - fast shutter speed
e.) people streaming in from the front doors - fast shutter speed
f.) the basketball booth where students are shooting basketballs at a hoop - fast shutter speed
Towards the end when there is no sun and has gotten dark enough that you can't see from one end of the courtyard to the other…

3 Settings on the camera that regards to shutter
1. Aperture priority - you set the lens on aperture, while the camera automatically sets the shutter speed.
2. Shutter priority - set the shutter speed, and and the ca,era automatically sets the aperture.
3. Manual - where you set both the shutter speed and the aperture manually.
ISO
![]() |
| ISO - 200 |
![]() |
| ISO - 6400 |
1.) The advantage of taking pics at a sporting event at night is that you can choose between high or low ISO, because they are fast moving images at a darker time of day, you get more freedom with that.
2.)You should always try to stick to the lowest ISO (base ISO) of your camera, which is typically ISO 100 or 200, whenever possible. When there is plenty of light, you should always use the lowest ISO, to retain the most detail and to have the highest image quality. There are some cases where you might want to use low ISO in dim or dark environments.
3.)You should increase the ISO when there is not enough light for the camera to be able to quickly capture an image. Anytime I shoot indoors without a flash, I set my ISO to a higher number to be able to freeze motion. Other cases where you might want to increase ISO are when you need to get ultra-fast shots.

Abandoned music parks
I chose the park in Prypiat, Ukraine. I chose this one because there is so mysteriousness and I feel like people would want to see this. I also like the fact that there is old things there, they add so much to the photograph. The story behind this is also very very interesting.
Weird places to take photos...

4. Jungle

Africa
1. When I saw these photos I was amazed at the beauty he was able to personify through black and white. It made me stop and think about how lucky we are to have such beautiful things in nature. I also really love the different angles, they make you feel like you're right there. These photos really showed the natural beauty of africa.

3. This photo is my favorite because first of all I love giraffes and second because it looks like he placed them there when unreality its just nature taking its place.
4. I think this photo best represents the rule of balance because throughout everything is balanced.
5. He photographs on medium-format black and white without telephoto or zoom lenses. Nick does not use telephoto because he says being close to them adds life and personality. He wants his photos to be different.
6. His reason for photography is to show the world the beauty of nature.
7. By taking these photos he hopes he can stop the extinction of these beautiful animals by humans.
8."You wouldn't take a portrait of a human being from a hundred feet away and expect to capture their spirit" - I one his outlook on things!

1. I really felt my emotions fall and ride like a roller coster as I looked through the photos.
2. I do feel like these photos are us because it shows what we like and how we are.
3. I would defiantly shoot these photos in tribute.
4. I would say is talented and brave.

Critique/like
http://hannahsphotojournalismblog.blogspot.com
1) The simplicity photo was my favorite. It was so clear and the subject was obvious.
2) One thing that I think she could of improved was the framing photo, but even for me that rule was hard. Maybe if she zoomed int framing would be more present.
Academic reflection and critique
1. The rule that presented the most problems was the framing rule, I defiantly think I could of improved that photo.
2. I did try to make the photos have some color like in the leading lines one.
3. Now that I know the rules of photography better I could improve the lighting and having a simpler background.
4. I do like the focusing, and I would continue doing this, It makes a big difference.
5. The rule that I think will be easiest to follow in the next prompt would be leading lines, because there is lines everywhere in the human world.
6. Again, I think framing will be the hardest for me to capture in the next prompt.
7. I honestly did not know a lot about balancing, but I asked my neighbor Avy and it turns out that i was just per thinking it.

Great Black and White Photographers Part 3:
Minor White:
1) The aspect that drew me to these specific photos were the way he used the black and white colors to draw you in, or make you look at a specific thing.
Instagram Meets the Streets
1. A theme we can complete for our panels could be talent, we could get different shoots all around bowie of people "doing" there talent.
2. I think we should be able to use any camera options we have as long asa we follow the prompt.
3. The mural should be put up where everyone could see it, maybe somewhere in the academic halls. I would say somewhere outside but I wouldn't want the weather to damage it.

Academic Shoot and Reflection

Post shoot reflection
1. The challenges of getting all four prompts was that we had a limited space and time which made it hard to think outside of the box.
2. On all my photo's I tried to keep in mine all my the aspects I could remember from last years Journalism. For example on the bowie photo I tried to accomplish rule of thirds.
3. On my next photograph I will try to accomplish a lot more of the rules since I could not remember most of them. I really want to practice framing and simplicity, I think that would of made a lot of my photos better.
4. I think I would keep my technique of focusing because I think it would add a lot.
5. On post…
6. I think I would be interested to do this prompt again because I know rules that will make my photos a lot better.
Photo opinions-
a. I really love the square photo because is so beautifully simplistic.
b. I also love the metal one because the way it was shoot, it made you look down the line. She did a very good job of using leading lines.
c. I think that if she captured the happy photo without the blur it would look better.

Manipulated Phots
Photo manipulation and ethics
A. The main point of this story is that you should defiantly not manipulate photos when posting on a newspaper because people want the truth, no distortion. By doing so all your handwork could go down the drain, including your job, photos, credibility and ego.
B. This kind of editing is not okay, because when people look at the news they want facts, what really happened. When you distort a photo you are giving them false info. which in that you should lose your job.

9/11 Rules Of Composition
![]() |
| Lines: This is a good example of lines because the burning trees brings your eyes down to the people. |
![]() |
| Framing: This is a good example of framing because the the focal point, the fire man, is framed on all four sides by the broken glass. |
![]() |
| Simplicity: This is a good example of simplicity because it has the simplistic shapes (building) against the simplistic background (blue sky). |
![]() |
| Avoid Merging This pictures exemplified merging because of the total different sides merging together to make it very akward and cramped. WE DO NOT WANT THIS! |
![]() |
| Balance: This shows balance because the men divide it, and has mostly the same concept on both sides. |
![]() |
| Rule of thirds: This photo is a good example of rule of thirds because the building is off to the side which follows the tic tac toe rubric. |

Touching People
I think this project and photo essay is really cool because you are studying social behaviors that cause the photos to be abstract, it is awesome that it has never been done before. If someone came up to me and asked me if I could take a photo while touching a stranger I would hesitate at first but since its in daylight I think I would do it. Another really unusual photo to take would be if your asked to sit in someone or an object that you don't usual sit in. I thought the photography was really good because in each photo you could see the contrast very well.
